About B.A.R.C.

B.A.R.C's Mission
B.A.R.C.’s mission is to build a self-supporting animal rescue centre for dogs and cats.  We will, through good health-care and rehabilitation, prepare them to thrive in home environments.  We strive to build harmonious relations within the local community, and a place where citizens visit when they are ready to welcome pets into their homes.

B.A.R.C's Vision

B.To minimize the stray and neglected dog and cat population on St. Kitts through education, awareness programs, and surgical sterilization.
To create an
atmosphere of mindfulness and respect between humans and all creatures. We want our citizens to see the value of our islands' mixed breed dogs and cats.

Who We Are

Mala Weston-  Treasurer
As far back as she can remember Mala always has always had a connection and love for animals. She felt that they needed a voice and a place in our society. She co-founded PAWS in early 2000 with two main goals.

The first goal of securing dogs and cats with a place in our homes and in our hearts, and the second goal of reducing helpless stray animals through education and sterilization. She graduated from Ryerson in Toronto with a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management, and then went on to study Montessori education at The Toronto Montessori Institute. She has owned and operated The Montessori Children's School since 1996. Mala's home has always been in St. Kitts.

Moses Humphreys- Chairman
Ross School of Veterinary Medicine Alumni, DVM
Dr. Moses Humphreys graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005.  In a quest for a more rounded lifestyle his family have now decided to come “ home” to St. Kitts to spend more time with their children Marlin and Leilani. He co-owns One Love Animal Hospital, a group of hospitals located in NYC.
Dr. Moses is deeply committed to the community and wishes to use his skills and efforts to better the lives of animals and citizens within St. Kitts and Nevis.

Ricaldo Pike

DVM on St. Kitts & Nevis
Although born in the neighbouring Island of St.Martin, all of my childhood years were spent in Dieppe Bay on the Island of St.Kitts. At a very tender age I had the opportunity to interact and eventually care for the family herd of goats and dogs and eventually my own cow. Animals became a routine part of my daily activities. Many a day I braved the salty fresh air, be it early mornings or late evenings to ensure the well-being of our animals.
My career path could not have been anything other than Veterinary Medicine. In 2006, I graduated from veterinary school in Cuba and gained employment at the St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation as junior veterinarian to present day as facility veterinarian. In many communities across the Island, there is a tremendous need for affordable veterinary care and that's where I fill the gap to ensure the well-being of many of the Island’s animals. BARC is that tool that will be a welcomed addition to facilitate sustainable care to man’s best friend around Basseterre. Count me in!
